JK MEETS SYEDINA BURHANUDDIN





His Excellency President Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania visited His Holiness Dr. Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin TUS, head of the Dawoodi Bohra community at Hakimi Masjid Complex in Dar-e-Salaam on Thursday, February 12, 2009.

The meeting was very warm and cordial. Both leaders discussed issues of mutual interest of development and progress of the nation. On the occasion, His Holiness specifically prayed for the wellbeing and good health of the President and for the progress and prosperity of the people of Tanzania.

His Holiness was last week received by the Honorable Mr. Bernard Membe, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and His Excellency K.V. Bhagirath the High Commissioner of India at Julius Nyerere International Airport.

The spiritual leader arrived in the city from Mombasa, Kenya where over 22,000 Dawoodi Bohras from Tanzania and from other parts of the world had gathered to observe the 10 days of Moharram known as Ashara Mubaraka with His Holiness.

During his tour to the East African region, His Holiness has met President Mwai Kibaki of Kenya who had specifically sought blessings from His Holiness on the first Moharram discourse in Mombasa. His Holiness also visited Zambia for a few days and was accorded State Guest facilities by the Government of Zambia respectively. Regarded as Ambassador of Peace, His Holiness has advocated for peace, brotherhood and harmony amongst the citizens of the East Africa and emphasized on strengthening the multi-lateral economic and social relations in the region. His teachings to be loyal to one's land of abode and contribute to its overall development have greatly been lauded by world Governments.

On Sunday February 15th, thousands of Dawoodi Bohras from the East African region and other countries shall be participating in the observance of Chelum of Imam Husain (SA); the grandson of Prophet Mohammed (SAW) martyred in Karbala and seeks His Holiness' blessings on the revered occasion. A number of religious, cultural and social welfare programs have been organized by the community members in Dar-e-Salaam during His Holiness stay in the country.
